Backing Up Your Project

Why Backup Your Work?

While SurtitleLive automatically saves your work in the cloud, it's good practice to keep local backups of your scripts, especially:

  • Before major edits or AI translations
  • After completing a major project milestone
  • For archival purposes after a show ends
  • To share scripts with external collaborators

Exporting Backups

Note: Export is available on Lite and Pro tiers only.

Option 1: Excel Export (Recommended)

  1. Open your script in the Editor
  2. Click the "Download" button in the toolbar
  3. Select "Excel (.xlsx)"
  4. Choose which languages to include
  5. Click "Export"

The Excel file contains all script data including original text, translations, roles, and timing information.

Option 2: PowerPoint Export

  1. Open your script in the Editor
  2. Click the "Download" button
  3. Select "PowerPoint (.pptx)"
  4. Choose your preferred language
  5. Click "Export"

PowerPoint format is useful for creating projection slides or printed cue cards.

Automatic Cloud Backups

SurtitleLive automatically saves your work:

  • Real-time saving – All edits in the Editor are saved automatically
  • Secure storage – Your data is stored in encrypted cloud storage

Good news: You won't lose work due to browser crashes or accidental closures. However, manual exports provide an extra layer of security and portability.

Migrating Between Accounts

If you need to transfer a project to another account:

  1. Export the script using Excel format
  2. Share the exported file and original document with the new account owner
  3. The new owner creates a new project and uploads the script

Note: Direct project transfer between accounts is not supported. The receiving account must recreate the project structure.
