Backing Up Your Project
Why Backup Your Work?
While SurtitleLive automatically saves your work in the cloud, it's good practice to keep local backups of your scripts, especially:
- Before major edits or AI translations
- After completing a major project milestone
- For archival purposes after a show ends
- To share scripts with external collaborators
Exporting Backups
Note: Export is available on Lite and Pro tiers only.
Option 1: Excel Export (Recommended)
- Open your script in the Editor
- Click the "Download" button in the toolbar
- Select "Excel (.xlsx)"
- Choose which languages to include
- Click "Export"
The Excel file contains all script data including original text, translations, roles, and timing information.
Option 2: PowerPoint Export
- Open your script in the Editor
- Click the "Download" button
- Select "PowerPoint (.pptx)"
- Choose your preferred language
- Click "Export"
PowerPoint format is useful for creating projection slides or printed cue cards.
Automatic Cloud Backups
SurtitleLive automatically saves your work:
- Real-time saving – All edits in the Editor are saved automatically
- Secure storage – Your data is stored in encrypted cloud storage
Good news: You won't lose work due to browser crashes or accidental closures. However, manual exports provide an extra layer of security and portability.
Migrating Between Accounts
If you need to transfer a project to another account:
- Export the script using Excel format
- Share the exported file and original document with the new account owner
- The new owner creates a new project and uploads the script
Note: Direct project transfer between accounts is not supported. The receiving account must recreate the project structure.
